Bay Gardens Resorts will phase out the use of plastic by November 2018 in favor of biodegradable vessels and utensils made from wood, paper, compostable plastic and sugar cane bagasse. The resort chain's reduction of its carbon footprint follows increased global awareness of the harm plastic litter causes.
Over a year ago, the company began to reduce its impact on the environment by ending the use of all Expanded Polystyrene (styrofoam) products at its properties.
It has also utilized other ecological innovations such as installing GEM Link occupancy sensors in its guestrooms, leading to a 15 percent energy use reduction per occupied room.
With three of its four properties now Green Globe-certified, Bay Gardens Resorts says it remains committed to environmental protection by doing its part to ensure a greener planet throughout its operations; improving the social, environmental and economic sustainability of St. Lucians; and keeping its island home green.
