Costa Rica Glamping: Nayara to Open New Resort in Sloth Sanctuary

Nayara Resorts has announced plans to open a new, luxury tent property in Costa Rica’s Arenal Volcano National Park this November: Nayara Tented Camp. The new camp will join two existing properties by Nayara in the park, Nayara Resort, Spa & Gardens and Nayara Springs

Phase one of Nayara Tented Camp, opening this November, will consist of 21 luxury tents, each with a master suite, an en suite bathroom and an outdoor shower. Each tent will sit on its own platform with an outdoor living area and a plunge pool filled from nearby hot springs. For families, 12 of the tents will mirror each other with the option to connect two tents via a passageway. The remaining tents will be standalone units, which the company says could be good for a couple’s getaway.

Phase two, set to open in early 2020, will include a new swim-up bar and family-friendly pool, as well as a new spa. Prior to the spa’s opening, guests can use the open-air spa and fitness facilities of the sister resorts, which are cantilevered over the rainforest. Phase two will also see the opening of a new Asian restaurant with a large terrace. Six other dining options are available at the other two resorts.

Nayara Tented Camp is set on a sloth sanctuary for guests to explore; last year, the company planted 300 Ceropia trees (the sloth’s main food source) on the property. As a result, more than 15 sloths now call Nayara home, and the company plans to increase the number of sloth-friendly trees to approximately 1,000. Other activities on the property and nearby include yoga in an open-air pavilion, hiking, ziplining and whitewater rafting.

The addition of the Tented Camp will bring Nayara’s property to 62 acres of rainforest. All three resorts are two to three hours by car, or 30 minutes via Nayara’s private plane, from the capital of San Jose. Guests can travel between the three properties via golf cart.
