Habitas has announced its expansion in Latin America with the launch of Habitas Santa Teresa, its first property in Costa Rica. Reservations are open for the property located on the southernmost tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, set to open this December.
Each of the 45 low-impact earth-inspired rooms and 10 luxury tents will be tucked under palm trees and greenery, steps away from the destination’s white sand beaches and long-breaking waves. Habitas Santa Teresa will additionally offer a farm-to-table restaurant named Suawe. Gathering spaces, such as the beachfront infinity pool, surf shack and bar, will provide ample space for guests to relax and connect while taking in the views of the Pacific Coast.
The wellness program at Habitas Santa Teresa comprises a spa with treatment rooms, cold plunges, a yoga shala, sauna and hot tub. On-site activities include daily movement and meditation to boot camp training classes. Off-site excursions include exploring desolate beaches on horseback, mountain biking through jungles and waterfalls excursions. Guests can also enjoy surfing, paddle boarding, fishing, diving and surfboard-shaping. (In recent years, Santa Teresa has become renowned for its beaches and perfect waves that attract surfers from all over the world.) The area also offers hiking trails, waterfalls and jungles.
The eco-sustainable retreat will offer resort rooms built from local and ethically sourced organic materials. Sustainability will be of the highest priority throughout, including the spa, agora, restaurant and pool deck. Habitas Santa Teresa will be single-use plastic-free, establish a water management plan, and even plant equal amounts of trees for the wood used during any and all construction.
Habitas Santa Teresa will support conscious tourism by promoting social and environmental sustainability within local communities. Activities include Malpais underwater volcano snorkeling, motorcycle/ATV rides, sunset bonfires and hydrofoiling (a surfing technique harnessing a swell’s energy). The brand’s impact arm, RISE, will collaborate with local partners and initiatives to give back to the community by supporting cultural and environmental causes, donating into the fund for every guest who stays at Habitas Santa Teresa. Habitas RISE further aims to empower locals through job opportunities and hospitality training.
Habitas Santa Teresa will be the brand’s first “home” in Costa Rica, with plans to expand further inside the country with two more locations.
