Humbird Hotel at Schweitzer Now Taking Reservations

Set against the slopes at Schweitzer in northern Idaho’s panhandle, Humbird Hotel is accepting bookings for February 1, 2022, and beyond. The 31-room property, which is expected to open in late 2021, will also provide a new ski-in, ski-out lodging experience for guests who wish to explore the resort’s 2,900 acres of skiable terrain. As the project progresses, earlier reservations may be made available.

Located in the heart of Schweitzer’s intimate village, the hotel will offer several accommodation choices, ranging form single king rooms to double queen rooms and one oversized suite. Designed by Portland-based Skylab Architecture, the property was built using cross-laminated timber with exposed wood and structural elements that highlight the region’s connection to the natural surroundings. Each of its guestrooms offer panoramic windows with views of Lake Pend Oreille nearby. The ski-in/ski-out property will also include a rooftop deck and hot tub overlooking the mountain and lake. Humbird will also have an on-site restaurant and bar, Crow’s Bench, besides a fitness center, co-working space, heated ski lockers/storage and underground parking.

Tom Chasse, president and CEO of Schweitzer, said in a press release that the hotel’s name honors the Humbird Lumber Company, which was the lifeblood of the Sandpoint community in the early 1900s. Back then, the company attracted explorers, adventurers and families to the area.

A new addition to the Ikon Pass this year, Schweitzer is the largest ski resort in Idaho and neighboring Washington. Located in Sandpoint, ID, Schweitzer offers 2,900 acres of terrain in the winter. In summer, guests can go hiking, mountain biking, or indulge in watersports on Lake Pend Oreille. Schweitzer offers uncrowded slopes, groomers, Nordic skiing, tubing and a growing base area village with dining and entertainment options. Access to snowmobile tours, snowcats and heli-skiing operations through partner Selkirk Powder round out the resort’s winter amenities.

Humbird is part of the resort’s multi-year master plan launched in 2017. This year, Schweitzer will be making several on-mountain improvements including increasing uphill capacity, the addition of new on-mountain dining and instituting RFID technology to make getting on the slopes easier for visitors. Schweitzer will also debut a number of new residential real estate options, including 5-Needles at White Pine, a 26-unit expansion to an existing base-area condominium complex that has already broken ground.
