Upon completion of renovations in February 2018, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and Golf Course will be rebranded as the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort, representing the first Westin Hotels & Resorts property on Hawaii Island.
Travel Agent recently chatted with representatives of Prince Resorts Hawaii for more details on this major rebrand, as well as the hottest news at the company’s other Hawaii hotels - the popular Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the recently-revamped Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club.
Here’s what we learned:
Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel’s $46 Million Renovation
Mauna Kea Resort recently signed a franchise agreement with Westin Hotels & Resorts to debut the wellness hospitality brand on the Island of Hawaii following a $46 million renovation and conversion of the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel.
The renovation and conversion, which are already underway, are expected to be completed by February. At that time, the property will be rebranded as the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. The hotel will remain part of Prince Resorts Hawaii.
Travel Agent thinks Westin picked a great spot to make its debut on Hawaii Island. We believe Hapuna Beach is one of the best kept secrets in all of Hawaii. We last stayed at Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel a few years ago and while we were amazed at the balcony views, the rest of our room was a bit dated and in need of an upgrade, so we expect that $46 million to be put to good use.
Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel opened in 1994. As the second phase in Laurence S. Rockefeller's creation of Mauna Kea Resort, the hotel property shares 1,839 acres of oceanfront with Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club’s $55.4 Million Makeover
Oahu’s Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club recently completed an extensive $55.4 million redevelopment and repositioning aimed at attracting the Millennials heading to the Aloha State for leisure and business.
Completed this past spring, the eight-month refurbishment marks the hotel’s first major remodel since its grand opening on April 20, 1990.
Sitting at the gateway to Waikiki and overlooking the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, Prince Waikiki is a choice location at the heart of Oahu’s four vibrant neighborhoods – downtown/Chinatown Honolulu, Kakaako, Ala Moana and Waikiki.
The property renovated 563 oceanfront guest rooms and suites, as well as added all-new dining options, a modernized lobby, a new infinity pool, and enhanced meeting space.
Coinciding with the renovation project, Prince Waikiki also recently announced new partnerships with Katsumidori Sushi Tokyo, Watabe Wedding Corporation, and Honolulu Coffee.
With its first restaurant opening in Meguro, Japan, in April 2002, Katsumidori Sushi Tokyo is known for offering fresh, high-quality sushi. The restaurant will open its first overseas location on the hotel’s lobby level in December.
Established in 1953 and currently one of Hawaii’s largest wedding specialists, Watabe Wedding Corporation has entered into an agreement to develop its first high-rise wedding chapel on the 33rd floor of Prince Waikiki with its vistas of Ala Wai Harbor, the Pacific Ocean and Oahu’s south shore. The wedding chapel expects to host its first wedding parties in spring 2017.
Honolulu Coffee will offer a complete coffee experience in its cafe, located in the hotel’s new lobby, providing a unique Kona coffee experience for guests.

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel Makes Over Popular Bar
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel also recently completely gutted and transformed its popular The Copper Bar, which serves handcrafted cocktails, a unique draft system and signature Mauna Kea Mules made with house-brewed ginger beer.
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel was the first resort on the Hawaii Island built in 1965 by Rockefeller. The historic and storied hotel, now part of Autograph Collection Hotels, offers two championship golf courses, luxury residences, town homes and villas.
