Jasná: Hotels and Chalets

by Telegraph Ski and Snowboard, The Telegraph, January 8, 2018

Accommodation in Jasná is great value by Alpine standards. Top of the range places are modern and comfortable with impressive spa facilities. There are some basic budget places, and we’ve included two Brit-run operations which offer catered chalets. Prices for many hotels change frequently depending on demand.

Prices are per person, based on two people sharing a double or twin room, half board, for seven nights, unless otherwise stated.

Budget

Close to the slopes near the end of the valley, the two-star Liptov has basic en-suite rooms with balconies, a cosy bar and a games room. It’s popular with young freeriders. Little English is spoken, and the website is not in English. From €300 (£260).

Propaganda, run by Brits, has four chalets sleeping eight to 16, including one right on the slopes. It also has its own ski and snowboard school and rental shop. For the three chalets not on the slopes, it provides free transport to and from the ski area each day, and for all except the one in the centre of Liptovský Mikuláš it offers free daily transport to and from restaurants and bars until 9pm. From £209 B&B, including ski guiding for as long as you want from 10am each day.

Mid-range

The three-star Ostredok is across the road from the piste and lifts at Biela Pút near the end of the valley. It’s modern, with light and airy public areas, big windows and stone cladding. It has 26 rooms and five suites, an Italian restaurant, a steam room and two types of sauna. From €570 (£495).

The Dragon’s Lair is a brand new chalet with five en-suite bedrooms set down the valley from the ski area. There’s in-house ski hire, a sauna, an outdoor hot tub, and massages and yoga can be arranged. On the ground floor is a bar open to the public. From £505 B&B including transfers from Poprad‑Tatry airport, six-day lift pass, eight‑minute transfer to and from the slopes each day, evening transport to and from restaurants and bars, free après-ski drinks and snacks in the chalet each day, plus a first‑day orientation tour of the slopes. Self-catering can be arranged for whole chalet bookings.

Expensive

The four-star Hotel Posta is at the foot of the slopes and the lifts at Biela Pút near the end of the valley – the best location to stay. It’s small, smart and stylish, with 24 deluxe rooms and eight spacious suites. There’s a restaurant, lobby bar and terrace, and a small spa with a sauna, Jacuzzi and treatments. From £1,199 including flights, transfers, six‑day ski pass and six-day equipment rental, with Mountain Paradise.

The four-star Hotel Tri Studničky is 10 minutes down the valley from the ski area, reached by regular free public ski buses or the hotel’s own free shuttle. With big, airy public areas and good-sized well-appointed rooms, it claims to be Slovakia’s first feng shui hotel. The restaurant serves top-notch food, including nights of Slovakian, Scandinavian, Italian and Hungarian fare. There’s a good spa with indoor and outdoor hot tubs, sauna, steam room, a plunge pool and a wide variety of massages and beauty treatments. From £605, including transfers, with Zenith.

For families

The four-star Grand Jasná Hotel is across the road from the piste and lifts at Biela Pút near the end of the valley. It has smart and spacious rooms and is very family-friendly. Toys such as plastic cars are widely in evidence and there is kids’ entertainment or dancing in the evenings during school holidays. There’s a specially glassed-off room for adults only, so you can get some peace. There are also excellent spa facilities with various types of sauna and steam rooms, outdoor hot tubs and an indoor pool with massage jets. From £635, including transfers, with Zenith.
