There’s plenty happening on the hotel front in Scotland to start the year. Here’s a sampling of what you need to know about:
The Rosehall Estate will be transformed into a luxury hotel. In 1920, Coco Chanel redesigned the property’s interiors while having an affair with one of the world’s richest men at the time, the Second Duke of Westminster. Many of the rooms still have her original work making it the only home out of Switzerland and France with interiors by Chanel. After around 60 of years of neglect, the property will undergo a transformation into a luxury hotel. There is no scheduled completion date yet; the estate is located in the Scottish Highlands, less than a two hour drive from Inverness.
In Edinburgh, Nyx Hotels plans to open a 131-room hotel on Jeffrey Street. The property is described as a “lifestyle, boutique hotel” and “vibrant and lively.” The art scene in Edinburgh, the music and cultural scenes, will all be reflected in the style and décor of the hotel. The reported price tag of the project is £32 million. Note: The group is targeting further acquisitions and new builds in Edinburgh and across Scotland.
Lastly, Scotland’s first Melia Innside Hotel is slated to open in Glasgow. B-listed office building on St. Vincent Street will be transformed into Scotland’s first Melia Innside hotel by FaulknerBrowns Architects. The hotel will include 149 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, conference and wedding facilities, as well as a fitness suite. The redevelopment will bring the vacant office building back into use and reinstate the grandeur of the building by returning it to its original use.
