Little Palm Island Resort & Spa in the Lower Florida Keys has announced plans for a soft reopening March 1, almost two and a half years after Hurricane Irma hit the property, which is set on a four-acre island off Little Torch Key. Since then, the adults-only resort has undergone a complete redesign and rebuild.
Little Palm Island is the final Florida Keys property to reopen after Hurricane Irma. Almost all other affected properties resumed welcoming guests less than a year after the storm passed through the island chain in September 2017. A formal opening is planned for mid-March.
The property is accessible only by boat or seaplane, and it is part of Noble House Hotels & Resorts. The resort is comprised of 30 thatched-roof bungalow suites in a British Colonial design, for a maximum capacity of 60 guests. The air-conditioned, nonsmoking suites have minibars, Wi-Fi, a coffee display, private sun decks and outdoor showers or copper tubs.
In a written statement General Manager Kevin Geanides said that, along with the soft reopening, the resort will welcome back 50 percent of its staff and many local vendors.
Notable accommodations include two 1,020-square-foot Island Premier suites, aimed at honeymooners and offering a private fire pit and four-power bed. There are also two 1,000-square-foot Island Grand suites with travertine flooring, crystal chandeliers, a king bed and a deep claw-foot tub.
For dining, guests will be able to check out the resort’s Dining Room, overseen by Miami-raised Chef Daniel Ganem and split by a 360-degree bar, or opt for a six-person chef’s table experience, which is available by reservation. Guests also receive the resort’s signature “Gumby Slumber” rum and coconut cocktail upon arrival.
The resort also has dock slips that can accommodate vessels up to 120 feet long with a six-foot draft.
