The Lodge at Chaa Creek has launched a new hands-on cultural culinary experience, titled “Open Hearth.”
Situated in an airy, thatch-roofed Belizean kitchen, hands-on classes are now offered every weekday with each day highlighting one of the five cultures of Belize. Each dish will incorporate herbs and produce harvested from Chaa Creek’s 33-acre Maya Organic Farm.
On Maya Fridays, the experience begins with an introduction into the history and culture of this ancient civilization, followed by a culinary class led by an expert chef that will guide participants through the process of preparing a traditional dish. Likewise, Mestizo Mondays, East-Indian Tuesdays, Creole Wednesdays and Garifuna Thursdays all will highlight the culinary traditions of each culture, while teaching guests how to cook these dishes.
At the end of each two-hour session, participants and cooks can gather around the table to enjoy the meals they’ve prepared. For a special lunch price, family and friends can also dine in to try the authentic dishes. Guests will also receive a complimentary spice packet to take with them, along with the printed recipe.
By combining culture and cuisine in a traditional kitchen setting, “Open Hearth” aims to leave guests with a deeper understanding of the culinary and cultural heritage of Belize.
