Meliá Hotels International is set to debut its first hotel as part of the ME by Meliá portfolio in Lisbon in 2024. ME Lisbon will be located on the corner of the downtown avenues of Antonio Augusto de Aguiar and Fontes Pereira de Melo, alongside the Eduardo VII Park and Marquês de Pombal Square.
Already under construction, the hotel has been designed by the Portuguese architect João Paciência and will feature a semi-transparent glass façade. The hotel’s interior design by Broadway Malyan studio is inspired by the idea of an “unexpected” Lisbon, influenced by some of the key attractions in the city, such as the arches or color of the trees on the Avenida da Liberdade, helping bridhe the gap between hotel and community.
ME Lisbon will offer 213 rooms, complemented by a choice of dining and wellness concepts. Guests can expect an à la carte restaurant and a choice of international cuisine available throughout the day, together with the Radio Rooftop Bar, offering panoramic city views. The luxury hotel will also offer a gym, spa and health club, including an indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath and massage cabins. Additional facilities include over 6,458 square feet of flexible space for meetings and events in 11 rooms.
The hotel design will also employ the most efficient and sustainable technology to minimize its environmental footprint. The heat generated by the cooling systems in the hotel, for instance, will be used as a source of energy for the hot water boilers.
The property is owned by the Discovery Portugal Real Estate Fund. Besides ME Lisbon, the ME by Meliá brand will open at least three more hotels in 2023 and 2024 in Malaga, Malta and Guadalajara. Meliá already has two hotels in Lisbon, and ME Lisbon will be accompanied by the first INNSiDE by Meliá hotel in the city, which is also scheduled to open in 2024. Portugal is one of the fastest-growing markets for the company, with the seven hotels under development adding to nine properties which are already open
