Mountain Lodges of Peru has announced a new boutique hotel for Cusco: the El Retablo Bed & Breakfast, which is set to make its debut December 15.
The two-story, 17-bedroom bed and breakfast aims to celebrate the traditions of Peru and Cusco. Housed in a restored and converted historic building three blocks from the Plaza de Armas, the new hotel takes inspiration from retablos, a form of Andean folk art with three-dimensional figurines in vibrantly colored portable boxes.
All interior spaces are hand-painted by artisans of the Fine Arts School of Cusco, while a spacious garden patio welcomes guests and serves as a gathering space. The adjacent lounge, decorated with vividly stylized flowers, offers traditional breakfast served daily.
Each of the ten Superior and seven Superior Deluxe rooms has amenities including handwoven tapestries, elegant pillows and luxury bed linens. An additional garden patio on the second floor provides additional space to relax.
The hotel was designed by Lima-based Pamela Valqui and Ivan Crousillat, as well as Andrés Adasme and Diego de la Barra.
