Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to open its sixth hotel in Switzerland in 2019. With a design by Matteo Thun, the new property will become the Swiss hotel group’s flagship hotel in Europe.
The new 264-room Mövenpick Hotel Basel will be in the city center, next to the SBB railway station, allowing for easy access from several European cities. The 19-story building is designed by architects Miller & Maranta, while the interiors will be by Matteo Thun in a style the hotel group is calling “Timeless Modern.”
Accommodations will include 50 Mövenpick Sleep rooms with individually adjustable beds. Another highlight will be the Executive Lounge with a floor-to-ceiling window front and a furnished terrace with park views.
Additionally, the hotel will offer 1,800 square meters of meeting space, divided into 20 different rooms. The 500 square meter ballroom with a seven-meter-high ceiling will be able to accommodate up to 600 people.
In the upscale brasserie restaurant, a show kitchen will serve modern dishes with a twist from the border triangle region of Switzerland, France and Germany. In the ground-floor lobby there will be a Mövenpick Wine & Coffee Lounge, designed with natural materials and an outside seating area.
