Grupo Posadas, a Mexico-based hotel company, is planning two new hotels in Tulum, a company spokesperson has confirmed to Travel Agent. While many details on the project are still to come, the company has said that the Fiesta Americana Tulkal Riviera Maya will have 735 guestrooms, while the Live Aqua Beach Resort Tulkal will have 349 guestrooms. Both properties are slated for completion in 2021.
The move marks the latest development for Tulum, a destination that in recent years has drawn attention beyond its famous Mayan ruins to its thriving local arts scene. This past January, KASA Hotel Parota Tulum, a family-friendly, luxury boutique hotel that opened just a year ago, joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH). In the all-inclusive space, AMResorts is planning to develop a new resort in Tulum under its Breathless brand. Construction on that 300-suite property is set to begin in the second quarter of this year, with a tentative opening date planned for the second half of 2021.
The move will also mark the latest expansion for Grupo Posadas’ Live Aqua lifestyle brand. Just last year the company opened the new Live Aqua Urban Resort San Miguel de Allende in San Miguel de Allende. The new resort brought to the UNESCO-listed destination a number of new, international restaurants, as well as the largest ballroom in the region.
