In Los Cabos, more options are emerging for the extended stay market, while in Mexico City, a familiar resort brand is throwing its hat into the ring.
After an extensive renovation, the Westin Los Cabos Resort Villas & Spa has reopened. The property is in the Los Cabos Hotel Corridor, next to El Dorado Golf & Beach Club.
Newly-redone are public space interiors, food and beverage outlets, accommodations and landscaping. Internet and Wi-Fi connections are improved, as well.
The biggest change at the Westin Los Cabos is the transformation of 243 guest rooms and suites into 147 villas. The units were reconfigured to become studio, two bedroom and two-bedroom premium villas that can accommodate up to eight. There’s also now a two-bedroom Governor’s Suite (1,722 sq. ft.) and a three- bedroom, three-bath Presidential Suite (2,238 sq. ft.).
The two-bedroom premium villas and the two luxury suites feature private balcony Jacuzzis.
“One of the highlights is definitely the Presidential Suite, which is on the top floor. It can accommodate large parties for family trips, girls or guy’s getaways, or simply for a couple who is looking for a special stay,” a spokesperson for the property tells Travel Agent.
Designed for extended stays, the villas at Westin Los Cabos are equipped with full kitchens, balconies, and washers and dryers. That’s a welcomed feature for the destination, according to Colleen Renner from Groupit Travel.
“I’ve got ‘snowbird’ clients who go down to Cabo for a couple of months at a time. It’s expensive, but they do it. A lot of people don’t realize how much there is to do in and around Los Cabos. You can go up to places like Loreto, which is incredible,” Renner tells Travel Agent.
Renner’s long-term stay clients typically stay at rental homes. But, that comes with its own hassles for an agent.
“It would be perfect for them to have the convenience of a kitchen, washer and dryer as well as the other amenities of a resort. That’s the best of both worlds for them,” Renner tells Travel Agent.
Resort amenities at Westin Los Cabos include Spa Otomí, offering locally-inspired healing treatments. Guests can choose from six food and beverage outlets, or take advantage of new stainless steel grilling stations at the Oasis Garden in the center of the property. And, destination wedding clients may be interested in the new Plaza Cortez area of the resort. It offers dedicated oceanfront space for weddings, events and other social gatherings.
The resort also features the signature RunWESTIN Concierge. The concierge hosts groups runs and helps guests of all levels explore the beachfront landscape with running maps. Also new is the Westin Family program’s reinvented kids club, family experiences and amenities for younger guests.
Westin’s Mexico expansion will continue in 2018, with the debut of The Westin Puebla and The Westin Monterrey. They’ll join a roster of properties that includes hotels and resorts in Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Cozumel, Cancun and Mexico City.
Barceló Into Mexico City
Mexico City is joining the ranks of destinations served by the Barceló Hotel Group.
The Spanish hospitality brand already has a robust presence in Mexico, with 21 hotels in resort destinations. Though its portfolio includes urban centers across Latin America and Europe, they’ve not ventured into the urban market in Mexico.
That changed with the recent opening of Barceló México Reforma, a 500-room, flagship in the heart of Mexico City.
Barceló México Reforma is located on Paseo de la Reforma, the iconic shopping, culture, tourism, and business destination. The area has undergone a building boom in recent years, with new skyscrapers joining restored classic buildings to enliven the landscape.
Barceló México Reforma is setting its sights on not only business travelers, but leisure and cultural travelers as well. Features include a buffet restaurant, steakhouse, lobby bar, wellness offerings, a sports bar and lounge, and high-tech events facilities that can accommodate up to 800 people.
"Barcelo Hotel Group is committed to continued growth in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our new hotel in Mexico City is indicative of this. Barceló México Reforma is a new luxury hotel in the heart of Mexico City which not only caters to the leisure traveler, but also caters to business travelers and groups due to its prime location and vast meeting space. This 500-room property will showcase the quality of our growing urban hotel portfolio which presently includes hotels in major Latin American and European cities," Juan Perez Sosa, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the U.S., tells Travel Agent.
