New in New York: James New York NoMad to Open This Summer

Travelers headed to New York are about to be spoiled for choice with the late summer opening of the James New York NoMad, the latest in a series of new hotels in New York this year.

The James New York NoMad will be set in a 20th century building at the corner of Madison Avenue and 29th Street, close to Madison Square Park, Gramercy Park and the Flatiron District. Ahead of the opening the 12-story Beaux Art building is undergoing a transformation under the direction of designer Thomas Juul-Hansen. When it opens, it will have 344 guest rooms, including 28 suites, each with design elements meant to attract “global nomads,” according to a statement from the property.

John Meadow’s New York-based restaurant group, LDV Hospitality, which also operates the American Cut, Lugo Cucina Italiana, Diamond Horseshoe, Corso Coffee and Paramount Bar & Grill restaurants in New York, will oversee all food and beverage at the hotel. The signature restaurant and bar/lounge, Scarpetta, will serve soulful Italian food with pastas made in-house daily paired with locally sourced ingredients.

Hotel guests will also be able to enjoy a comprehensive wellness program, as well as KEYPR keyless guest room entry, an in-room table and a custom mobile app for in-room dining and streaming TV shows and movies.

For meetings and events, the hotel will have 4,500 square feet of space, including a 250-person grand ballroom and four private meeting rooms.

An opening offer is providing 30 percent off rooms and suites.

Our visit to the just-opened 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

New Hotels in New York

The hotel is the latest major opening for New York this year. Brooklyn just saw the debut of two big properties: the eco-conscious 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, which is situated on Pier 1 just south of the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Watch this property for the rooftop bar set to open this summer which, based on our recent trip there, should offer great views of the bridge. In Williamsburg, The Williamsburg Hotel is a 150-room boutique property with guest rooms offering views of Manhattan, Brooklyn and the East River

Long Island City, which offers quick subway access to Manhattan, got a new Aloft Hotels property in early January. The Aloft Long Island City – Manhattan View has 176 loft-style guest rooms, 1,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city skyline.

In March, the Hotel 50 Bowery will open in Chinatown, marking the first Manhattan property for Joie de Vivre Hotels

New hotels are popping up all over in 2017 — here’s a list of openings to watch.
