The new Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour remains on track to debut this November after Hurricane Maria passed the destination to its south Tuesday afternoon, tourism officials report.
According to the latest update from tourism officials, St. Kitts escaped major damage from Hurricane Maria. All hotels are fully operational, and those properties that do not engage in regular seasonal closures are open. St. Kitts’ Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (SKB) reopened and began welcoming flights September 20. The Port Zante cruise pier did not sustain damage and St. Kitts is scheduled to welcome two cruise ships tomorrow: Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Fascination and Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas.
The opening of the Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour, which was originally set for this summer, was delayed to November back in July. The 126-room resort will span the beach of Banana Bay and will focus on art, culinary experiences and immersive excursions.
“We continue to extend our thoughts and prayers to our Caribbean brothers and sisters in those islands which took a direct hit from Maria and to everyone who has been or will be impacted by the storm,” tourism officials said in a written release. “Our sincere thanks to those who have kept St. Kitts & Nevis in their hearts and prayers.”
Hurricane Maria is now bringing hurricane conditions to Turks and Caicos as the powerful category 3 storm passes near or just east of that destination and the southeastern Bahamas today. The storm, which still has maximum sustained winds of 125 mph, has killed over 30 people across the Caribbean and completely knocked out power in Puerto Rico.
