El Pez, a beachfront hotel in Tulum, has added two new rooms on the beach, each with its own heatable plunge pool. The hotel says that the new rooms are set right on the sand, providing easy access to and views of the Caribbean Sea; additionally, guests staying in the new rooms will have their own private jungle garden courtyard with a heatable plunge pool and an outdoor shower.
Each air-conditioned room also has a king bed and sofa, a lounge area and bathrooms with double vanities. There is, however, no TV. In one of the rooms, the king bed can be split into two twin beds. The two rooms can be booked individually, or as one larger, interconnected suite – a good option for families traveling with children.
Colibri Boutique Hotels’ interior designer Delfina Porras was responsible for the design of the new rooms, which are done in a mix of local Mayan stone, polished cement, tropical woods, natural Mexican handwoven fabrics and textiles and natural colors. Locally made wooden furniture and vinyl lattices aim for a look that the hotel describes as “retro tropical.” The large, sliding glass doors, as well as the setup of the beds, lounge areas and plunge pools, are all arranged to allow for maximum views of the sea and the surrounding nature, the hotel says.
Other amenities include daily maid service, turndown with artisanal chocolates and herbal teas, free Wi-Fi, a safe and a minibar stocked with local beverages and snacks. Hotel staff will also deliver freshly brewed coffee in thermoses to the room’s outdoor terrace each morning at sunrise, while in-room Nespresso machines allow for a coffee break at any other time.
El Pez is part of Colibri Boutique Hotels, which consists of four Small Luxury Hotels of the World in Tulum and one lodge on Little Corn Island, Nicaragua.
