The final season of Game of Thrones won’t be here until 2019, but fans can wait in a new, Game of Thrones-themed ice hotel in Lapland.
Lapland Hotels Snow Village is built each year from 20 million kilograms of snow and 350,000 kilograms of natural ice, and this year the property is Game of Thrones themed, with rooms based on the hit series designed by sculptors from Russia, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine. Guests can check out a life-sized Iron Throne, a Braavosi Hall of Faces or a white walker with glowing blue eyes. There’s even an Ice Chapel for couples looking to tie the knot.
The property opened December 2, 2017, and will remain open through April 8, 2018. The last entry each day is at 9:00 p.m., or travelers can opt to stay in one of the 30 guestrooms, allow of which are made of ice and snow. A number of suites are individually themed, including one with a white walker dramatically looming over the bed. A number of wooden cabins are also available. Guests and visitors can also grab a bit at the Ice Restaurant or a cocktail at the Ice Bar.
The Snow Village is in the western part of Finnish Lapland, nearly 200km above the Arctic Circle and near the Ylläs and Levi ski resorts, which offer regular tours of the property by car or snowmobile. Travelers can fly in to the airport of Kittilä.
