Portugal’s AlmaLusa Comporta Launches Outdoor Experiences

AlmaLusa Hotels has launched a new roster of curated outdoor activities for guests to discover the Alentejo coast from its new hotel, AlmaLusa Comporta, which opened last November.

The 53-room hotel occupies a prime location for beach enthusiasts and nature-lovers at just an hour and a half south of Lisbon in the village of Comporta. The only hotel in the village, and the only one in the area within walking distance to a beach, AlmaLusa Comporta enables guests to explore its setting next to the Sado River and the surrounding rice fields.

Guests can enjoy views of the landscape from The RoofTop Bar, swim in the outdoor pool and enjoy healthy cuisine and beverages on the pool terrace or AlmaLusa Café. To bring the local culture indoors, the hotel has curated artist collaborations and Portuguese products for its guests. The concierge team helps connect guests to the region via its 24/7 app and a new curated menu of outdoor experiences unique to the area.

Here's what you can expect:

Dating to 2008, Surf in Comporta was the first surf school in the Grândola area. The lessons are adaptable to any age and level of proficiency and can also be taught in different languages with group or private options. Guests can opt for surf lessons, SUP lessons and stand up paddle yoga classes.

AlmaLusa Comporta has additionally partnered with a company offering dolphin-watching excursions on the Sado Estuary. Led by an experienced team, guests can go on sailing excursions to discover this unique community of dolphins, and learn about the landscapes of the estuary, the Troia coast and Arrábida.

The “Horses in the River” tour combines horseback riding with canoeing along the banks of the Sado River, then moves to a canoe trip down the river for approximately two miles. Afterwards, guests can enjoy a picnic lunch at Casa das Cegonhas. Guests can, alternately, enjoy a boat ride on the Sado River with a choice of two destinations: Alcácer do Sal or Serra da Arrábida. Along the route, they can marvel at the landscapes, rice fields, salt pans, birds and the region’s famed Roman ruins. During October to March, visitors can discover the flamingos of the Sado Estuary by boat. Or, they can ride on horseback along a path between rice fields, pine forests and white sand dunes to the beach. Guests can choose between a group ride or custom private ride with a route of their choice.

Suggested routes can be found on the AlmaLusa Hotels app.

As well, AlmaLusa has partnered with the area’s two golf courses: Troia Golf with stunning views over Serra da Arrábida; and Dunas Golf Course, designed by McLay Kidd.

Good to know: After a day of adventuring, guests can indulge in an array of bespoke massages and treatments in AlmaLusa Comporta’s Spa Suite. The new Spa Suite menu has been launched in partnership with wellness brand Elemental Herbology.
