Queen Kapiolani Hotel, located on the Diamond Head side of Waikiki, Hawaii, recently announced that it has hired Joy Shinobu Tomita as its new director of sales and marketing.
In her role as director of sales and marketing, Tomita will serve as an executive on the team leading the $35 million charge to transform the hotel into a four-star, full-service hotel.
As the 315-room hotel prepares for its grand reopening, Tomita is charged with the development of the marketing, public relations and sales programs, ensuring that each facet is working together to grow market share, increase awareness and maximize profitability.
Prior to joining the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, Tomita served as the director of sales at The Modern Honolulu, where she was instrumental in the property’s grand opening. Tomita has also worked as a sales manager at the Halekulani and at Oahu Visitors Bureau, as well as a sales coordinator for Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.
Tomita has more than 18 years of sales and marketing experience in the Hawaiian Islands. A graduate of University of Hawaii at Manoa, Tomita studied dance theater and travel industry management, and is fluent in Japanese.
Following the $35 million renovation, the Queen Kapiolani Hotel will relaunch this summer. Located on Kapiolani Park, the Queen Kapiolani is a short walk from the surf breaks of Waikiki Beach and the shopping and nightlife of Waikiki.
Built in the mid-1960s, the Queen Kapiolani includes 19 stories and offers 315 guest rooms, a large open-air lobby that fronts Kapiolani Park, a fitness center and an 8,000-square-foot third-floor lanai (outdoor deck) and pool.
