Ash Hotels to Open New Property in Richmond, VA

Shenandoah Mansions, the fifth hotel from hotelier Ash, has launched reservations ahead of its February 2025 opening in Richmond, VA.

Owned and designed by Ash, Shenandoah Mansions is a red brick 73-key hotel inhabiting a six-story apartment building dating back to the 20th century. Once home to community leaders such as Ellen Gertrude Tompkins Kidd, a women’s suffrage activist and pickle entrepreneur, Shenandoah Mansions has "cinematic" interiors with Richmond influence and references to local myths and legends. Located in the Fan District—a former bohemian enclave whose Italianate series of boulevards are lined with historic Virginia houses and restaurants and stores—the hotel sits just off Monument Avenue, offering views of treetops and steeples as one of the tallest buildings in the neighborhood.

Shenandoah Mansions' lobby sports hand-painted trompe l’oeil wood grain and a grand staircase leading towards long, winding corridors off of which guestrooms and suites are set. Also on the first floor are two bars, an intimate exterior garden and the third Ash–Bar location, which offers a blend of European and American cuisine.

Upstairs, heavy wooden doors open to reveal guestrooms furnished with grand four-poster beds in gemstone colors with block-printed quilts, a nod to the folk artists still practicing in the Shenandoah Valley. Rooms host expansive bay windows, cinematic drapery, pine wood floors, and motifs inspired by American folk art, while bathrooms are adorned with hand-painted tiles.
