Small Luxury Hotels of the World is introducing the Hotel Amparo property in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
The hotel officially opened its doors on January 1, 2019. Historically a mayor’s private residence, the over 300-year-old property is located at the center of the colonial city. Amenities include five guest suites, a high-end coffee bar and rooftop wine bar.
The interior spaces were stripped to provide a clean backdrop to best display both the original Spanish colonial-style architecture and the mid-century furnishings taken from all over the world—including France, India and Denmark.
The high-end coffee bar, a focal point of the hotel, offers drinks made from Mexican-grown and roasted beans sourced from Mexico City’s BUNA coffee shop. Bar Margaret is a limited seating rooftop wine bar serving cuisine influenced by the southeastern United States and the Mexican gulf coast with a modicum of Chef Marin’s Peruvian heritage. From May 2019, the hotel will launch a new restaurant called Locanda Amparo offering traditional hand-made Italian pasta classics such as Bucatini Amatriciana and Spaghetti Carbonara with a focus on Italian and Sicilian wines.
Note: The hotel provides gallery concierge services to assist with the purchasing and shipping of goods, since San Miguel is known for its art scene.
Small Luxury Hotels of the World has also introduced new European hotels this year. These all have "epic landscapes," according to the collection.
