Sports Illustrated Resorts is expanding to Chicago, IL, tapping into the city’s deep sports culture for the brand’s third location.
Travel + Leisure Co., parent company of Sports Illustrated Resorts, announced Tuesday that the Chicago property will open in late 2026 following a major transformation of an existing hotel in the city’s Loop neighborhood. The resort will remain open during construction, with a “preseason” soft opening planned for this winter.
“Chicago is where legends are made,” Geoff Richards, chief operating officer at Travel + Leisure Co., said in a statement. “With more than 40 championship trophies across 11 professional and college teams, this city breathes sports in a way few places can match, with a passion that runs through generations of fans. With this new resort, we're creating a destination where that same championship spirit lives year-round, combining the rich storytelling tradition of Sports Illustrated with the unmatched energy that makes Chicago home to some of the world's most devoted fans.”
The property will feature about 250 units and a design inspired by Sports Illustrated’s more than 70-year legacy and its more than 100 covers showcasing Chicago sports. Plans call for an updated lobby that preserves the historic building’s grand staircase while incorporating sports-themed design, plus a new owner’s lounge and a signature fitness center.
Guests will also find a street-level coffee shop, a full-service restaurant and a sports bar designed to reflect the city’s game-day atmosphere.
Chicago joins Tuscaloosa, AL, and Nashville, TN, as the latest announced destinations in the Sports Illustrated Resorts pipeline. The addition reflects Travel + Leisure Co.’s broader strategy to grow its vacation ownership offerings and lifestyle-driven resort concepts.
The Chicago resort will introduce flexible, points-based ownership options, with sales slated to begin early next year.
