Starhotels has announced details of the renovation of Venice’s Hotel Gabrielli, the historical 13-century palazzo and the six surrounding buildings that altogether form this heritage property. Recently taken over by Starhotels, Hotel Gabrielli will reopen its doors in 2024.
Located on the Riva degli Schiavoni, the hotel overlooks the Venetian lagoon and Isola di San Giorgio. The hotel originally opened in 1856 and has been owned and run for five generations by the Perkhofer family.
Salvatore Pisani, complex general manager of Starhotels Venice hotels, and Milanese designer Andrea Auletta are leading the renovation and the new design. Many original features, such as the Quadrifora windows on the main façade, ancient courtyard columns, marble bathrooms and pavements in Istrian stone, are being restored.
Reducing the number of keys from 120 to 73 to allow more living space, the new rooms offer multiple areas, with separate sleeping, lounging and dressing areas in the larger suites. Spacious front rooms and suites will afford views of the lagoon. Each room will have a unique design and the Presidential Suite will include a private terrace, overlooking the roofs of Venice and the lagoon.
The hotel will reopen with a range of F&B options, including a sixth-floor Roof Terrace with Sky Bar, and a Mediterranean restaurant on the ground floor. Additional highlights include a Venetian garden adjacent to a canal; a first-floor spa with a lounge pool, wet area and a treatment room; and flexible events spaces.
Opening in 2024, Hotel Gabrielli will be part of Starhotels Collezione hotels, together with Hotel d’Inghilterra in Rome, Helvetia & Bristol in Florence, Grand Hotel Continental in Siena and Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste.
