The Vera, a 39-key property located on Lilienblum Street in Tel Aviv, has become the city's first boutique hotel to ban single-use plastic with a new series of initiatives.
Having first opened in 2018, The Vera is founded on a commitment to local anthology and sustainability in both material and ethos. The hotel is decorated from floor-to-ceiling with works and creations of both budding and well-known Israeli designers and creators, while sustainable programming at the hotel includes:
- Reusable and recycled materials: The hotel has completely banned single-use plastics; toiletry dispensaries have replaced disposable soap and shampoo bottles; water-filter systems are provided in each room to avoid the use of single-use plastic water bottles; garbage bags produced with upcycled bio-degradable beans are being used throughout the property; and the hotel is also using degradable coffee cups and lids.
- Environmental sustainability: The hotel is using local, organic bath products that are sourced locally, which supports the local economy and eliminates CO2 emissions.
- Energy efficiency and eco-insulation: The hotel is using of one of the world’s most energy-efficient insulation systems, the LG VRF System 4th generation; it provides insulation with a high-quality material that keeps the hotel warm in the winter and cold in the summer, thus reducing the use of air conditioning systems.
“The elimination of single-use plastics is an obvious decision and a forward step for the hotel industry,” said Danny Tamari, CEO and founder of The Vera. “We continually strive to build an environmentally-conscious society, and The Vera’s action reflects our vision of what a modern hospitality experience should be.
The Vera offers rooms with oak-wooden parquet floors and stylish furniture, complimentary boutique wines on tap, an intimate spa, two-level rooftop sundeck, hyper-local concierge and an all-around personalized service.
