Viceroy Hotels & Resorts has announced that its new resort in Panama – billed as the first resort in the region with over-water villas – will open in 2021.
The Viceroy Bocas del Toro Panama, which was first announced back in 2016, will be set on the Bocas del Toro, an archipelago of rainforest islands. The property will have 42 private overwater villas, in what Viceroy says is a first for the region, along with 186 guestrooms and residences.
All told, the property will span 457 acres. Amenities will include eight onsite restaurants and lounges, a number of pools, a spa, a fitness center and meditation rooms. Guests will also be able to explore the adjacent San San Pond Sak wetlands, a habitat for water birds and endangered fauna, either on their own or on guided eco-tours, bike rides and hikes.
The Bocas del Toro island chain is a short flight from Panama City, Viceroy said.
In addition to the new resort in Panama, Viceroy is also planning to open a hotel in Serbia in late 2019, with new properties in Algarve, Portugal, and Cartagena, Colombia, also under development. This year the company added two hotels in Washington, DC, to its portfolio of urban properties, and it opened a new hotel in San Francisco. Last year, Viceroy opened a new luxury hotel in Los Cabos.
