The Vinoy St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club in Florida is set to undergo a comprehensive transformation. Design firms Rockwell Group and Hart Howerton have been roped in for the renovation project, which will include a redesign of the resort’s veranda, porte cochère, main lobby, guestrooms, spa, ballrooms, restaurants and more, with an anticipated completion in 2022.
With nods to the resort’s past, the revamp aims to celebrate Vinoy’s traditional Mediterranean Revival design and old-Florida grandeur. The arrival court, veranda and lobby, which will be home to a patisserie, will showcase custom, lantern-like chandeliers; architectural details like the original cypress wood beams and ceramic flooring will be restored within the new interiors. The Vinoy’s veranda will have custom rocking chairs and indigenous Floridian foliage.
The fully renovated Historic Tower guestrooms will be inspired by Florida’s coastal topography and will sport the hotel’s polished palette, crown molding, wood flooring and new fixtures. Most rooms following the renovation will have walk-in marble showers. The revamped Vinoy pool terrace is expected to exude old Florida glamour, with cabanas, bespoke sun loungers and a new pool restaurant and bar adding to the existing Paul’s Landing. Upgrades to The Vinoy’s Grand Ballroom will include a new, lush walled garden outside the arched windows and a restoration of the Chihuly chandelier.
Originally opened on New Year’s Eve in 1925 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Vinoy St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club offers 13-plus acres of waterfront property, a private 72-slip marina, an 18-hole golf course on the Snell Isle, a tennis complex and a fitness center. Other amenities include over 40,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor event space, restaurants and a day spa.
