Mexican resort and real estate development Vivo Resorts & Residences introduced new voluntourism activities. While in Puerto Escondido, visitors and residents can donate their time, money or possessions to help the local community and landscape.
Vivo Resorts & Residences’ founder Cary Mullen created the Vivo Foundation as a way to give back to the local community. The foundation puts money into environmental efforts, construction projects, kids’ programs, orphanage donations and local agricultural development.
The Palmarito Sea Turtle Camp ranks as one of the most popular guest programs. Visitors take care of and release endangered baby sea turtles. The foundation estimated that the camp’s efforts have save over 300,000 turtles.
Guests at Vivo Resorts & Residences can also choose to contribute financially, donate books or school supplies, practice English with the children at the orphanage or provide their condo as housing for volunteers while they are away. Visitors can also choose to take free Spanish lessons, building education right into their vacation.
Vivo Resorts & Residences is a gated beachfront community located 10 minutes away from downtown Puerto Escondido in Mexico. When construction finishes, it will offer 115 private homes and up to 600 condominiums. Vivo Resorts provides 12 miles of secluded beach, a kids’ club, a gym and a spa.
