Buenos Aires is set to get the first W Hotel in Argentina. Marriott International has signed an agreement with GNV Group to develop the W Buenos Aires, with a planned opening date in 2024.
The new property will be set in a $100 million, 34-story, mixed-use tower in the Puerto Madero neighborhood, and it will mark the third W hotel in South America, following the W Santiago and W Bogota.
In a written statement Marriott International Chief Development Officer Laurent de Kousemaeker said that Puerto Madero is a highly sought-after neighborhood in Buenos Aires, offering good walkability, nightlife and green spaces. The hotel tower will be part of the Madero Harbour development.
Architect Carlos Ott and local studio BMA will be responsible for the design of the new hotel, drawing on the city’s culture and heritage. The property will have a mix of meeting space, restaurants, and a rooftop bar with sweeping views of the city, Marriott said.
W Buenos Aires will join the brand’s portfolio of over 50 hotels around the world, including the recently opened W Dubai, as well as the soon-to-open W Aspen, W Ibiza and W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island. W Hotels is on track to open 75 hotels by 2020. The new Buenos Aires hotel will also be part of Marriott’s new Bonvoy rewards program, which replaced the Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest programs.
