Wynn Resorts announced that it has expanded its Board of Directors to 11 members with the appointment of CEO Matt Maddox and independent director Richard J. Byrne. These two additions to the Board, combined with the recent appointment of Phil Satre as Vice Chairman, who will succeed D. Boone Wayson as Chairman of the Board at the end of 2018, reflect a comprehensive overhaul of the Wynn Resorts Board, the company said in a statement announcing the decision.
Over the past six months, the company has appointed six new directors to its Board and announced the departure of five legacy directors. Now, one-third of the Wynn Resorts Board is comprised of women, Wynn Resorts said.
“We have made it our top priority to implement meaningful change at Wynn Resorts and have made demonstrable progress over the past six months,” said Maddox in a written statement. “I am excited to be part of this refreshed board that is committed to growing the premier brand in luxury resort development.”
As the CEO of Wynn Resorts, Maddox oversees day-to-day operations and global growth for the luxury brand. He assumed the role in February 2018 when the previous CEO, Steve Wynn, resigned. Wynn’s resignation came not long after The Wall Street Journal published allegations of sexual misconduct over the past few decades by dozens of people who have worked at Wynn’s casinos.
Wynn Las Vegas President Maurice Wooden also announced that Wynn Las Vegas will commit up to a $1.5 million charitable investment in The Shade Tree, a Las Vegas-based non-profit organization that helps homeless and abused women and children in crisis. Conceived as a community-wide initiative, the partnership also includes several local construction and professional trade companies that will work with Wynn’s Design and Development team to provide necessary large-scale upgrades to The Shade Tree’s main intake center and shelter.
According to Wynn Las Vegas, the investment will alleviate construction and upkeep costs that can instead be funneled into providing women and children with temporary housing, meals, medical care, and other services that promote stability, dignity, and self-reliance.
Wynn’s Design and Development team, with the support of Novus Architecture, MMC Contractors, Ryan Mechanical, TEAM Construction and others, will design and rebuild The Shade Tree’s main facilities including the kitchen, resident bathrooms, and intake room. In addition, Wynn is providing ongoing pro-bono consultation to The Shade Tree in the areas of food safety, security, engineering, and marketing.
