PURE 2023, which was set to take place Sunday, September 10, through Wednesday, September 13, has officially been canceled as a result of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake on Friday that has resulted in almost 2,700 confirmed deaths.
In a message to attendees, Serge Dive, CEO and founder of This Is Beyond, operator of PURE Life Events, the team organized an earthquake relief event to support local charities with immediate relief efforts, while ideating how to support Moroccan tourism in the long term. “This was run separately to PURE, but we are so proud of what we managed to achieve as a community,” he added.
Dive added that over 400 team members and event attendees took part in the relief efforts over the weekend. Airport transfers are no longer running but attendees on site can continue to participate in assistance events organized by PURE.
The team is also accepting donations on behalf of Education for All Morocco to help it repair boarding houses in the Atlas Mountains and Travel Link, which will use funds to provide assistance to the severely affected villages surrounding Marrakesh in the form of food and medical supplies.
Dive also said that PURE would be offering the option of a credit for PURE 2024 should it be requested but to “please wait until after October 1, when you will receive more information regarding credit note options. Thank you for your continued understanding and patience as we work to support the local community first.”
Reuters reported that the earthquake was the deadliest in the country in more than six decades. In addition to the 2,681 dead, another 2,501 remain injured.
