On April 19, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez issued a mandatory suspension of all non-essential activities throughout the state, including Puerto Vallarta, through May 16 to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). During this time, all people in the state of Jalisco are required to stay indoors except when leaving the house for essential activities, such as grocery shopping, doctors’ visits and essential work. Face masks are required for all people outside their place of residence.
Additionally, state borders will be closed for non-essential activities, and roads are available for essential use only. Beaches, public spaces, shopping malls and nightclubs will be closed. Hotels that remain in operation should be used only by those with essential business and hotel services, such as access to swimming pools, bars, gyms, beach clubs and private beaches are not permitted. Government offices will remain open with limited staff available to assist citizens.
Borders between Mexico and the United States remain closed and travelers from the United States and Canada have been ordered to avoid all non-essential international travel until further notice. As dictated by the United States and Canadian federal governments, citizens of both countries currently in Puerto Vallarta should arrange for immediate return unless they are prepared to stay in Mexico indefinitely. Airlines are operating reduced schedules between the United States and Canada and Puerto Vallarta, but a limited number of direct flights to these countries are still available from Puerto Vallarta’s Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport and via connections at Mexico City International Airport.
Travelers currently in Puerto Vallarta are encouraged to contact their travel advisor, tour operator, airline, hotel reservations department, travel insurance company or local embassy immediately to arrange return travel to the United States and Canada.
