Claudia Coenjaerts is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the 9th Tourism Human Resources Conference, which is set for November 28-30 at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
Coenjaerts is the director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean. The event is organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) working alongside with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (CIDOT).
The conference is scheduled to explore the development of the regions tourism work force. The theme is Building a Resilient, High-performing and Sustainable CaribbeanTourism Workforce for Global Competitiveness and Coenjaerts’ keynote speech is “The Future of Work – What Will Become the New Normal.” This will include major challenges in the labor force, which are expected to exasperate in the future. She will talk about the challenges of creating a high-performing and resilient workplace and offer suggestions for altering engagement with HR in a tourism environment that is dynamic.
Coenjaerts joined the ILO in the mid 1990’s where she worked in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Before her most recent role, she served more than a year as president and chief executive officer of the Fair Labor Association in Washington, D.C. She has expertise in the areas of gender equality in the workplace, child labor, international labor standards, workers’ rights, multi-stakeholder initiatives, employment creation, youth employment, job creation in fragile states, social and labor compliance in supply chains in apparel and footwear; electronics and agriculture.
