Travel Leaders Network’s Director of Educational Services Gloria Stock Mickelson has announced she will retire, with September 28 to be her last day.
Mickelson worked for over 30 years with the company. When she joined in 1988, she started in the position of Manager of Training. She received a promotion to Senior Manager of Training and another in 2014 to her current role as director. She will help train her successor and help with the transition.
“We are extraordinarily proud and grateful of Gloria and all that she has achieved on behalf of Travel Leaders to benefit all travelers and travel agents,” said Roger E. Block, president of Travel Leaders Network, in a letter to his colleagues.
While serving with Travel Leaders Network, she led training programs for Honeymoon and Destination Wedding specialist certification at the company’s Corporate Agent Retreats. She also led the development of the APEX training program and worked on Travel Leaders Academy’s franchise offering.
Mickelson became an accredited Certified Travel Industry Executive and Accredited Cruise Counselor. She also held the position of President of the Upper Midwest Chapter of the American Society of Travel Agents and Chair of ASTA’s National Education Committee. Right now, she is an at-large director with the ASTA National Board of Directors.
During her career, Mickelson lobbied numerous times for travel agents. She testified multiple times in committee hearings and sent the Minnesota State Legislators almost 1,000 messages over the course of her career.
ASTA awarded her a Barbara O’Hara Advocacy Award twice, once in 2013 and again in 2017. The first time she won her working to stop a suggested sales tax on Minnesotan travel agency service. In 2017 ASTA honored her for lobbying in reference to Minnesota not complying with the REAL ID ACT.
