Riviera Travel, the parent company of Riviera River Cruises, has named Phil Hullah its new chief executive. Effective March 2, Hullah will replace David Clemson, who will stay with Riviera Travel as a shareholder and non-executive director.
Hullah joined Riviera Travel in October 2019 as chief operating officer. Prior to that, he was deputy chairman of AVADO, an international digital education business that he also led as chief executive from 2010 to 2018. He has also served as managing director of Laithwaites Wine and commercial director of John Lewis.
Clemson joined Riviera Travel in 2008, and he has led the expansion of Riviera River Cruises to the North American market and others. During his time with the company, Riviera Travel increased revenue seven-fold and maintained a track record of 35 years of unbroken revenue growth, the river cruise line said.
Riviera River Cruises offers 19 itineraries on 10 rivers and waterways, including exclusive departures for solo travelers with no single supplement. The line has a fleet of 13 ships, none of which are older than six years. Riviera’s cruise fares include accommodations, culinary experiences and excursions, but not gratuities or drinks. The line’s newest cruise ship, the 169-passenger Geoffrey Chaucer, is slated to launch this spring on the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers, as well as Dutch waterways.
