Victory Cruise Lines Gets New CEO Ahead of New Baby Boomer Product

Hans Lagerweij has been named president and CEO of Victory Cruise Lines as part of a series of changes to the cruise line’s management team. Lagerweij had served as the president and CEO of Quark Expeditions until October 2014.

Bruce Nierenberg, who has served as Victory’s president and CEO since May 2016, was named chairman of the cruise line.

Nierenberg said that Lagerweij will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of Victory. In addition to serving at Quark, Lagerweij has held senior positions with TUI Travel and other major travel companies worldwide. He holds an MBA from Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

“This is an exciting time for Victory Cruise Lines as we are in the midst of doubling our capacity on the Great Lakes within a very short period of time,” Nierenberg said. “We are committed to taking advantage of the unprecedented demand for our type of cruising and in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence in particular.”

Nierenberg also said that the line will expand its Cuba cruise products this fall and winter, as well as announce a new cruise product aimed at Baby Boomers later this month.

The second ship for the Miami-based cruise line, the Victory II, is set to start service this June, less than two years since Victory began cruises to the Great Lakes, Canada, and now Cuba with the Victory I. The two identical ships have a capacity of 202 passengers.
