Tour operators, cruise lines and more made new executive appointments in the travel industry this week.
African Travel, Inc. welcomed Allison Bailey as its new Midwest district sales manager. Baily, who started with the company on December 17, comes to African Travel after working as a travel advisor at Direct Travel. She will cover the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas and report to Kevan Cowie, director of sales.
In cruise news, this week Riviera River Cruises hired Marilyn Conroy as its vice president of sales and marketing for North America. Six months ago the cruise line retained David Morris International, where Conroy is executive vice president, to assist with the line’s growth in North America. Riviera said that, because of the positive response to its product by the travel agent community, Conroy will now take on sales and marketing of the line on a full-time basis, overseeing a team of dedicated regional sales directors. In addition to her time with David Morris, Conroy has also had a 20-year career with Cunard, where she became the youngest and only female vice president in the cruise industry. She has also spent time with Crystal Cruises and Silversea.
Hurtigruten appointed the captain of its newest cruise ship, the MS Roald Amundsen, this week: Kai Albrigtsen. Albrigtsen has been with the cruise line for 37 years, since joining as a galley assistant at the age of 17.
In hotel news, this week Wynn Resorts made a number of changes to its senior executive team. The company announced the return of Marilyn Spiegel as president of the Wynn Las Vegas, where she had previously served as president from 2010 to 2013. Spiegel will replace Maurice Wooden, who has elected to step down as the resort's president at the end of the year. In addition, the company has appointed Scott Moore as chief marketing officer and Michael Weaver as chief communications officer. All three appointments will be effective January 2, 2019.
Finally, this week the Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead named Kerrington Hing its general manager.
