The National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA) has teamed up with Visit Anchorage to bring a selection of 24 Alaska familiarization trips to travel agents participating in NACTA’s annual conference September 13-16, 2017.
The event will bring a travel agent conference to Alaska for the first time, NACTA said, and the event is enjoying record breaking registrations. The conference is being held at the Hotel Captain Cook in the heart of Anchorage. NACTA members’ collective leisure sales amount to $600 million annually and the state of Alaska tourism is poised to capture their share of that business for 2018, NACTA said. NACTA counts among its membership 1,600 professional travel sellers who are focused 100 percent on leisure and group sales. Travel agents who are members of parent company American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) are also able to take advantage of the conference and fam programs.
“Providing a conference venue such as Alaska that allows NACTA members to experience popular leisure destinations in-depth while networking with in-state local suppliers is a winning combination,” said Ann Chamberlin, president of NACTA, in a written release. “The support of Visit Anchorage and our connections in Alaska has helped grown this popular conference to a four-day program, in addition to the 24 pre-and post fam options and inclusion of 20 Alaska travel suppliers.”
Among the conference program highlights is Chris Elliott, a syndicated travel journalist and consumer advocate, who will make Anchorage a stop on his Great American Tour trek and speak to the conference attendees about his personal adventures during the NACTA conference general session on September 14, 2017. His articles, columns and essays offer advice for people who want to become more informed travelers.
