Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. is opening Ivan Dawson Primary School, the first school to be built from the company’s Hope Starts Here hurricane relief campaign.
The company raised more than $2.5 million dollars in collaboration with All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response, to provide early response and rebuild schools in the Caribbean communities devastated by Hurricane Irma and Maria.
Some of the money was used to build the primary school on Tortola, British Virgin Islands. On October 5, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings officials went to the grand opening celebration of the Kindergarten through sixth grade school, opening to students at the end of October.
The Hope Starts Here hurricane relief program began towards the end of September 2017, when the company partnered with relief organization All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response, to aid Key West by rebuilding schools and infrastructure within affected islands in the Caribbean including St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Tortola. Hope Starts Here is the largest fundraising campaign in Norwegian Cruise Holdings Ltd.’s history. It reached its goal of raising $2.5 million.
