Chicago and Las Vegas rank as the top two U.S. travel destinations this summer for Americans, with Toronto and Paris as the top two for international destinations. Travelers are also traveling to hotels that are nearly twice as far as last year.
When analyzing the top summer travel destinations, Offers.com and Hotwire looked at bookings with check-in dates from June 21 to September 20. The top 10 U.S. travel destinations for Americans were:
- Chicago
- Las Vegas
- Manhattan
- Boston
- San Francisco
- Orlando
- Seattle
- Washington
- San Diego
- New Orleans
When Americans traveled outside the country, they largely visited Canada and Europe. For that same time as mentioned above, the top 10 American international travel destinations, were:
- Toronto
- Paris
- London
- Vancouver
- Barcelona
- Amsterdam
- Rome
- Montreal
- Calgary
- Niagara Falls (Canada side)
Offers.com and Hotwire also analyzed data from 2017 and 2018 comparing the distance Americans traveled from home. They found that Americans traveled nearly twice as far from home to their hotel. This number rose from 803 miles to 1,540 miles.
They also looked at the distance Americans traveled by plane. The distance increased by nearly 300 miles, from 1,237 miles to 1,557 miles. This change marks around a 25 percent increase in distance.
