It’s shaping up to be a busy travel weekend over the Fourth of July, according to the newest travel forecast from the Travel Channel. According to the report, more than two in five Americans are planning on taking days off around the holiday, and nearly half (49 percent) of Americans plan to travel during those days.
Hitting the road will be the most popular means of travel over the Fourth of July, the Travel Channel says, with 65 percent of Americans planning to take a trip by car. That compares to 22 percent of Americans who plan on flying domestically 18 percent who plan on flying internationally, and 13 percent who plan on taking a cruise.
The Travel Channel says that the findings align with two key summer travel preferences: short getaways and road trips. The brand’s research indicates that 62 percent of Americans plan on taking a weekend or long weekend trip, while 89 percent plan on getting to their destination by car this summer. Additionally, the Fourth of July falls on a Thursday this year, which could be making a long weekend trip more enticing.
The Travel Channel survey was conducted online by Open Mind Strategy on the brand’s behalf. The survey took place May 29 – May 31 among 2,196 nationally representative respondents, the Travel Channel said.
