With Easter weekend almost here, Travelport has released a new study on the most popular destinations for U.S. travelers over the holiday weekend. Travelport based the report on advanced flight bookings made for travel from the U.S. to final destinations between April 16 and 22, 2019, as of April 7.
The top 10 destinations are as follows:
- Mexico
- Canada
- United Kingdom
- Dominican Republic
- Italy
- China
- Puerto Rico
- France
- Jamaica
- Spain
Mexico was the most popular destination by far, with 96,451 flight bookings, as compared with 44,975 for Canada and 32,515 for the UK. Spain saw the greatest year-over-year increase in Easter flight bookings, of 33.6 percent, followed by Canada (25.7%) and Puerto Rico (+25.6%).
In a written statement Erika Moore, VP and general manager for Travelport U.S., attributed Mexico’s popularity to its proximity and great weather year-round. Proximity and popular tourist attractions also likely boosted Canada’s appeal, she said, while affordable flights, festive celebrations and shopping sales helped the UK.
All told, more than 95,000 advance flight bookings had been made in the U.S. through all global distribution systems (GDS) through April 7, Travelport said.
