The summer travel season is heating up. For those hitting the skies this year, AirHelp has rounded up an analysis of the best airlines for avoiding summer flight delays, based on delay data from 2018 and combined with current datasets in order to make predictions about this year’s summer travel season.
Out of the 72 airlines in the analysis, the top three for avoiding summer flight delays were Garuda Indonesia, with 91 percent on-time flights; Greece’s Olympic Air, at 90 percent; and Brazil’s Azul Airlines, at 84 percent.
AirHelp also said that U.S. airlines ranked reasonably well in its analysis. Delta made the top 10 with an on-time rate of 80 percent, American Airlines came in at 20th place with an on-time rate of 75 percent and United Airlines came in 25th place at 94 percent.
“Due to overtourism, a record number of travelers are flying, and from overcrowding at airports to a lack of air traffic control around the world, there will be cancelled flights, delays, and chaos,” AirHep CEO Henrik Zillmer said in a written statement.
According to AirHelp’s analysis, approximately 2.5 million passengers will experience a flight delay per day this summer.
AirHelp defined a delay as constituting a flight departing or arriving more than 15 inutes later than the scheduled time. The period measured in the study was June 1 – September 15, 2018.
