The mid-coast of California and Panama City, Florida, are among the destinations that are trending for Spring Break this year, according to a new study by American Express Travel. The company based its report on its proprietary booking data and year-over-year growth.
The top trending destinations break down as follows:
- San Luis Obispo, CA (66% YOY growth)
- Panama City, FL (58% YOY growth)
- Grand Junction, CO (55% YOY growth)
- Yuma, AZ (51% YOY growth)
- Hilton Head, SC (51% YOY growth)
- Santa Rosa, CA (48% YOY growth)
California nabbed two destinations on the list, San Luis Obispo and Santa Rosa. San Luis Obispo is positioned at the midpoint between Los Angeles and San Francisco, making it a great stop on a Spring Break road trip, American Express said, plus it has over 100 wineries in the surrounding county. Santa Rosa, too, is notable for its winery scene; set at the center of Sonoma County wine country, the city also has a historic residential neighborhood and a lineup of great restaurants.
American Express called Panama City the “seafood capital of the South,” as it’s located on the Gulf of Mexico and has a thriving local seafood scene.
Grand Junction and Yuma are notable for their proximity to the Colorado River, with Grand Junction also serving as a hub for Colorado’s wine country and Yuma providing a scenic overlook of the river itself.
Finally, Hilton Head is on the radar for golf lovers, offering a number of world-class courses. Hiking is also popular here, as the destination has made a number of efforts to preserve the natural environment, including the construction of 60 miles of public use trails.
