Travel booking jobs fell in December, versus both the previous month and year over year. The Leisure and Hospitality sector overall, however, continued to add jobs.
According to the latest Jobs Report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the economy lost 200 travel booking jobs from November 2018 to December 2018, the most recent month for which data is available. Year over Year, travel booking jobs in December were down by 1,300 jobs.
For the Leisure and Hospitality sector overall, jobs were up in December by 55,000 jobs over the previous month. Year over year, the sector added 306,000 jobs.
According to the BLS, the economy added a total of 312,000 nonfarm jobs in December, although the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 3.9 percent. Year over year, the unemployment rate was still down slightly from 4.1 percent. Health care, food services and drinking places, construction, manufacturing and retail trade led the economy in terms of job gains.
