It’s no secret that Instagram is becoming a major means of inspiring consumers to travel. As we noted, with the launch of its new appointments tool, the social media platform could be poised to become even more important to travel advisors looking to expand their reach to additional clients. That’s why we found this new report from social media analytics company Socialbakers interesting – it examines travel influencers on Instagram; according to additional research cited by the company, the influencers as a whole are projected to become a $5 – 10 billion industry by 2020.
In terms of countries, the United States and Italy lead the world in Instagram travel influencers, according to the Socialbakers report. The company examined Instagram influencers that have “traveling” as one of their interests, finding that the U.S. and Italy had the most, with the UK coming in near the bottom of the list and India being last.
Other interesting tidbits from the report: the majority of travel influencers on Instagram are either 25 – 34 years old or 18 – 25 years old. Additionally, 60 percent of them are female.
In another interesting twist, travel brands are not the kind of brands travel influencers mention most. Instead, they tend to focus on fashion, beauty, eCommerce and retail, Socialbakers said. When looking at the top 20 brands mentioned in travel influencer posts on Instagram, beauty brand Anastasia Beverley Hills was number one, followed by MAC Cosmetics and Swedish watch company Daniel Wellington.
