Eating London, a part of the Eating Europe Tours, has launched two new walking tours in Brick Lane and the Docklands.
The two new tours have been operating since early May in the East End and Soho neighbors of the city, respectively.
The Brick Lane tour – Flavors of India & Beyond – runs for two and a half hours just after lunchtime. Tour participants receive nine different tastings that represent the flavors of “Banglatown,” showing off the rich culture of South Asia – from raw tamarind to traditional fish curries and mango lassi, a traditional yogurt-based drink.
While participants can experience these new flavors, they are also exposed to dynamic street art and get the chance to visit an authentic Bangladeshi food shop that sells exotic ingredients. These visual, immersive and tasty experiences are meant to teach participants about the connections between Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani and British culture.
On the London Docks, participants get a taste of the Historic Pubs and Classic Grub Tour. They are led by their guide to old pirates and artists hangouts from one historic pub to another – this includes the oldest riverside pub in London. Nearly doubling the time of the Brick Lane tour, the London Docks tour lasts four hours while telling tales of pirates, thieves and artists. While they sit and listen, participants get to munch on pub grub and sip on fresh London craft brews.
Afterward, participants are led through residential roads with cobblestone lanes and old warehouses where they can witness riverside views of London’s skyline.
The Flavors of India & Beyond Tour at Brick Lane is run daily from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. while the Historic Pubs and Classic Grub tour at the London Docks runs Monday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
