With the Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere on Sunday night also came some new tours based on the series. Because of the series’ growing popularity, fans now have the ability to visit the places where scenes from the show they adore are filmed, able to plop themselves into the lands and kingdoms where Game of Thrones takes place.
Iceland is where the icy, frigid lands “beyond the wall” are filmed and where the Wildings, the Night’s Watch and the White Walkers go to battle. It is also where The Fist of the First Men and the Frostfang Mountains live – literally within the confines of Snæfellsjökull National Park.
With tours in warmer, more coastal cities like Dubrovnik, Croatia, travelers can visit show landmarks like King’s Landing, Qarth and Slaver’s Bay along with Krka National Park, where many countryside scenes were filmed. The Spanish city of Seville is used to depict the setting of Dorne, while the Plaza de Toros, an active bullfighting ring, depicts Meereen’s fighting pit. On the Emerald Isle of Ireland, cast and crew of the series could be found in Winterfell, Castle Black, the High Hall of the Eyrie, the Great Sept of Baelor and the Seven Kingdoms, all filmed in the northern city of Belfast.
With these tours, show-obsessives and travelers alike will be able to walk in the footsteps of their favorite characters, such as Jon Snow, Daenerys, Cersei and Littlefinger.
Insight Vacations
Mere days ago, the tour operator announced a brand new themed tour based on the series.
On the tour operator’s “Natural Wonders of Iceland” 10-day itinerary, travelers will be able to visit Snæfellsjökull National Park, referred to as “the jewel of western Iceland,” the tour operator said.
There are also tours throughout Croatia, such as the “Country Roads of Croatia,” “Eastern Capitals and the Dalmatian Riviera,” “Treasures of the Balkans” and “Dalmatian Elegance” tours.
On the “Highlights of Spain” tour, travelers will get to see iconic Game of Thrones sites while also getting to enjoy several Spanish cities, see a flamenco show and immerse themselves in architecture, culture, history and authentic cuisine.
Then there is the “Country Roads of Ireland” tour: here, groups are made to feel as if they are in the heart of Westeros, “where they’re Team Stark or Team Lannister,” a representative of the tour operator said.

Pleasant Holidays
Though this tour operator did not orchestrate a Game of Thrones tour in light of the Season 7 premiere, they did release one last year.
Pleasant Holidays takes travelers through the Emerald Isle on the "Game of Thrones® Tour & Ireland’s Movies" seven-day itinerary. Travelers will arrive in Dublin and get the chance to travel to popular locations from the series such as Downpatrick, home to Castle Ward, used during the first season; the northeast shores of Lough Neagh, where the ruins of the centuries-old Shane’s Castle lie; the village of Ballygally to visit Carincastle; and Glenarm on the north Antrim coastline, among other beautiful sites that lie within the country’s greenery.
Though tour operators such as G Adventures and Abercrombie & Kent do not offer Game of Thrones themed tours, they still offer tours that bring travelers to locations where the series was filmed. G Adventures offers multiple tours through Croatia to places like Dubrovnik, through Iceland to see Reykjavik, through Ireland for Belfast and Giant’s Causeway, through Spain to towns like Seville and through Morocco to visit places like Ait Benhaddou, which depicts Yunkai, also known as the Yellow City. A&K offers itineraries to each of these countries as well.
