Luxury Gold, a company that specializes in luxury escorted journeys, is rolling out a new Colombia itinerary.
On select departures, travelers can also receive exclusive Chairman’s Collection VIP Experiences, which are selected by The Travel Corporation’s (TTC) chairman, Stanley Tollman.
The Journey: “Art, Culture & Cuisine of Colombia”
On this 10-day journey, guests will experience a private, before-hours guided tour of the Gold Museum (“Museo del Oro”) in Bogotá. In Zipaquirá, they will receive an after-hours guided visit to the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral, a Roman Catholic Church constructed more than 720 feet underground within the tunnels of a salt mine. In Medellin, they will speak to locals, including a Comuna 13 survivor. Prior to being a travel destination, Medellin was one of the crime capitals of the world; travelers will learn about this history, including the city's time as a stronghold for notorious crime lord Pablo Escobar.
Travelers will also meet the niece of literary icon Gabriel Garcia Marquez in Cartagena, and the owner of a coffee plantation in paisa country. On select departures, they will get a Chairman’s Collection VIP experience by meeting author Juan Gabriel Vasquez, who has been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. One notable work is his award-winning novel The Sound of Things Falling. In it, he confronts the history of his native country, Colombia.
The tour also spotlights regional cuisine, including Bandeja Paisa, and dishes prepared by one of the top 50 chefs in Latin America at Medellin's El Cielo restaurant. In Cartagena, guests will have lunch at La Cevicheria, a spot that was put on the map when the late Anthony Bourdain shot an episode of No Reservations there. Travelers will meet with Jorge Escandon and learn more about his friendship with Bourdain.
Departures are available from January to November 2020. Book and pay in full by December 18, 2019, to save 10 percent on the journey.
In other Columbia news, Four Seasons is opening the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Cartagena. Along with the Four Seasons Bogotá, the new hotel will be the brand’s third property in Colombia.
