Self-guided tour company Freewheel Holidays’ upcoming summer season will offer a wide range of bicycle vacations centered around the water. Split into two categories, those focused on island travel and those designed around cruising, these trips provide options for cyclists of all experience levels and will include visits to destinations throughout Europe.
The company’s six-day Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden might offer the most island visits of its collection. Biking the 24,000-island archipelago, guests will have opportunities to visit scenic villages, go sea kayaking and explore the country’s national parks. In Spain, travelers can tour the volcanic island Lanzarote. This eight-day, medium-intensity trip will include around 150 miles of biking, with room for more depending on what activities participants opt for. For another island option, travelers can choose the eight-day Funen Island and Odense itinerary in central Denmark.
Freewheel Holidays offers 23 different Bike & Barge options, nine of which are new this year. Of those debuting in 2019, trips include a tour of France’s Bordeaux wine region, a route that weaves through Bavaria’s historical sites, a sailing through the UNESCO-recognized Upper Middle Rhine Valley and an easier family option through the northern Netherlands.
Freewheel Holidays organizes mostly self-guided bike travel, with an additional few options for fully-guided vacations. The company’s collection includes a variety of options, from history-based itineraries to packages designed around wine and culture.
